Who / what am I looking for?
…about nudity in photography…
Yes, there’s a certain amount of nudity in my photography. I’m sorry if that offends you in any way. I prefer the models to be stripped of their distracting clothing, naked and exposed whenever possible. But not for the most obvious reason.
If staged photography is done well, and I strive to do just that, there’s no focus on the subject’s body or the beauty of their anatomy. Although I can appreciate that in other photographer’s work, it’s not my goal.
Nudity brings a degree of openness and vulnerability into the picture. Clothing can define what kind of person the model is supposed to be and that can be a good thing, but when someone looks at my photos I want them to get lost in the ethereal detachment, unburdened by all things except feeling or mood. A story depicting the possibility of underlying emotions. When a photographer shoots his subjects in the nude without a sexual motivation, one has to wonder what the underlying meaning is, looking far beyond and seeing much more than specific body parts and seeing the image as a whole.

There has always been nudity in art. In sculptures & paintings for example… Some people say there is a very thin line, dividing artistic nudity from pornography. Unfortunately, the attitude of the mass audience towards nude art is spoiled by many social prejudices, religious dogmas, and fake moral principles. Though, there is much more pureness and honesty in fine nude photography than, for example, in politics or trade. The topic of controversy is the amount of “fine art” nude photography that is out there today that is unquestionably distasteful in nature. Of course, viewing any degree of nudity might arouse basic human instincts, but isn’t that the responsibility of the beholder. Anything can be sexualized, even the most innocent subjects.
If you don’t like my pictures because of the nudity, that’s a-owkay! It’s a big online world out there. Just look for something you do like. No hard feelings. Live and let live.
“If we were meant to be nude, we would have been born that way.”
